ASUS Eee PC 1015PW

This netbook is more expensive than identically specced equivalents, but the stylish finish is certainly unique.

Although the ASUS Eee PC 1015PW charges a premium for having such a unique appearance, and overall $469 is a lot to pay when style focussed netbooks from other manufacturers cost a lot less without sacrificing any specs.

An Intel Atom N550 (1.5GHz) has become the new standard for netbook processors, and it can smoothly run low-end computing tasks like word processing. The 1GB of RAM is typical for a good modern netbook, as is the 250GB hard drive. Multi-tasking is possible for a handful of programs, while the storage is fair given the price and size.

A 10.1in (1,024x600 resolution) screen is a standard for netbooks, so no complaints there. This isn’t the lightest of its kind, but at 1.25kg the 1015PW is still light. It’s also a bit thicker than most alternatives, measuring 36.4mm thick. The other measurements are typical, including 178mm depth and 262mm width.

This notebook provides a reasonable balance of capabilities and price, though there are many other notebooks that are better value for money.
