Acer Aspire One Happy

It may be available in a nice choice of colours, but the specs can be had for about $100 less without difficulty.

For $399 the Acer Aspire One Happy is a well specced netbook for the style conscious. Netbooks with an Intel Atom N550, a 250GB hard drive and Windows 7 Starter don't crop up at this price very often, and along with the colour options (pink, blue, green, purple) of the Happy it's a really neat product.

The Intel Atom N550 (1.5GHz) processor is among the best Intel Atoms available for netbooks, and can handle a few low-end productivity applications at the same time. The 1GB of RAM is tiny, but still enough to run Windows 7 Starter. The onboard graphics do limit you to casual games on low settings, but netbooks aren’t generally capable of much more.

For storage there’s a 250GB hard drive. Netbooks can’t generally have larger hard drives, and it’s necessary to keep portability high. Another sacrifice for portability is the 10.1in (1,024x600 resolution) screen, but it’s enough to at least make productivity applications usable. The Happy has a low weight of 1.25kg and measures a slender 24mm thick, 185mm deep and 258.5mm wide.

This notebook is very good in terms of its balance of specifications and price. It's a strong contender though there may still be better notebooks in this category.
