Acer AOD257-N57DQ

This netbook still has a good processor by netbook standards.

The fact that the Acer AOD257-N57DQ (also called the AOD257-N57DQkk or LU.SFS0D.005) has an Intel Atom N570 processor is commendable, but for $399 it costs a bit more than comparable alternatives. It’s reasonably powerful by netbook standards, and overall is currently the best value example of its kind available at major retail.

The Intel Atom N570 (1.66GHz) is fast by netbook standards, and consequently it’ll do much better with a wider range of productivity applications. The 1GB of RAM on top of this ensures that Windows 7 Starter will run decently enough.

As with most good netbooks storage is taken care of by a 250GB hard disk drive, and the screen is a tiny but functional 10.1in (1,024x600 resolution) model. Portability is excellent, because the weight is just 13.3kg and the thickness is only 24mm.

We really like this notebook -- it's well above average in terms of price and capabilities, and there are many points to recommend it.
