LG Optimus Pad

LG Optimus Pad. LG has announced the upcoming release of the LG Optimus Pad in the Philippines, and they are giving a Php15K "early bird" discount to those who reserve one now. The catch is the suggested retail price is Php50,000, so with the discount it still costs Php34,990.

What makes the LG Optimus Pad special? It has the same specifications as your typical Android Honeycomb tablet, except that it has a smaller 8.9-inch (720 x 1280) screen instead of the more common 10.1-inch (800 x 1280) screen. The big feature it has is it can capture 720p 3D video, which you can watch on 3D in your 3D TV. Basically, it is a tablet with a 3D video recorder. In fairness, at Php34,990 it does come with 32GB of internal storage, but at its current price, it cost more than an Apple iPad 2 with 64GB of storage.

Unless you really want a 3D video recorder on your tablet, there really is no good reason to buy this one. As for the promo price, 50K was the correct price when it was released in May 2011. Now, it is being offered at a discount abroad, so the 15K early bird promo discount seems to reflect, its current price abroad.

Based on Google's Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system, the new mobile phone is expected to become one of the flagship models that LG will bring to shelves in its attempt to gain more market share and match the devices launched by rival vendor Samsung.

Apparently, the phone maker will bring the new LG Optimus EX to shelves in its home land market, on the airwaves of wireless carrier SK Telecom.

The new device
reportedly packs features and capabilities that will put it close if not in line with the Samsung Galaxy S II, one of the best selling handsets on the South Korean market at the moment.

The handset is said to include a large four-inch IPS touchscreen display that will boast a WVGA resolution, a 700-nit NOVA panel that will clearly differentiate it from similar devices.

Moreover, it should include a fast 1.2GHz application processor inside, a dual-core NVIDIA Tegra 2 ship, paired with a ULP GeForce (AP25) GPU and capable of offering increased performance capabilities to all users.

The mobile phone will pack 1GB of RAM when launched, along with 8GB of internal memory, and a microSD memory card slot through which users will be able to add up to 32GB of external storage into the mix.

On the back, it will include a five-megapixel photo snapper with auto focus that can offer 1080p video recording capabilities.

The LG Optimus EX measures 118.0 x 63.4 x 9.65 millimeters (4.64 x 2.49 x 0.38) and weighs in at 127 grams (4.48 ounces ), while packing a 1,500mAh battery inside.

Rumor has it that the new device will arrive on shelves at SK Telecom in two color flavors, namely Black & Sliver and White & Champagne Gold.

For the time being, no details on the phone's arrival on other markets around the world have been unveiled, though chances are that it will see an international release.

LG Optimus Black Heading to Sprint, Virgin Mobile and Alltel

Details about a possible Optimus Black launch through U.S. Cellular emerged last month, but it looks like the smartphone will be offered by other carriers in the United States as well.

The phone has recently received FCC's (Federal Communications Commission) approval under three different codenames: LS855, AS855 and VM855.

For those who are not familiar with these names, the LS, AS and VM code correspond to several carriers in the United States such as Sprint, Alltel and Virgin Mobile, respectively.

On related news, the Optimus Black appeared in the Tera-WURFL handset database as model US855, which points to a U.S. Cellular release in the next weeks.

Introduced earlier this year at the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas, the Optimus Black promises to provide customers with a longer battery time and exceptional energy efficiency.

As LG states, the Optimus Black is one of the brightest smartphones available on market and comes with a large 4.0-inch multi-touch screen display, which is based on LG's latest NOVA technology.

Its screen is capable of emitting 700 nits (candela per square meter) and it features 16 million colors support, 480 x 800 pixels resolution, as well as accelerometer sensor for UI auto-rotate and proximity sensor for auto turn-off.

Hardware-wise, LG Optimus Black is equipped with a Texas Instruments 3630 processor clocked at 1GHz speed.

LG Optimus Black runs Google's Android 2.2 Froyo platform, along with LG's Optimus 2.0 and Gesture 2.0 user-friendly interfaces.

Other highlights of the phone include HSDPA, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, DLNA function, Wi-Fi Direct-Fi and Bluetooth 2.1 with A2DP and EDR support, as well as GPS with A-GPS support.

The phone is powered by a standard 1500 mAh Li-Ion battery that is rated by the manufacturer for up to 375 hours of standby or up to 6 hours of talk time.

New LG Optimus One Tastes With Gingerbread in Romania

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system is now available for yet another popular mobile phone out there, namely the LG Optimus One, which has just started receiving it in Romania, if some of the latest reports on the matter are to be believed.

The handset was launched on the market last year with Google's Android 2.2 Froyo operating system on board as an affordable smartphone, and was said at one point to have been left out of the Gingerbread train.

However, its maker reconsidered the move and several months ago promised a software update to the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system flavor, which, apparently has already started to roll-out on devices.

LG did not make an official announcement on the matter until now, but users started to post on the company's official Facebook page various details on the new update.

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread update for LG's Optimus One has been promised about half a year ago, and it was about time that the deployments kicked off.

The platform version arriving on Optimus One devices out there is the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread iteration, it seems.

Various Romanian owners of this mobile phone are reporting that they have already received the new software, and reports on the availability of this OS flavor for Russian users also emerged.

The V20G version of Optimus One started receiving the new OS flavor yesterday, and handsets in more countries should start receiving it in the near future as well.

The new OS flavor should bring all of the improvements that the Android 2.3.3 Gingerbread platform was announced with, along with some updates specific to Optimus One.

Among the other enhancements that Gingerbread brings forth, we can count a better proximity sensor, though it seems that the screen remains off even after ending the call.

Hopefully, it won't be long before LG decides to make the new OS version available for users in more countries, so stay tuned to learn the news.
