The HP Mini 210-1036VU can’t justify costing $399, as it doesn’t have Windows 7 Starter a 250GB hard drive or an Intel Atom N550 processor. You can get netbooks that have all of these things and cost only $350, so unless the 1036VU gets discounted to about $200 it really can't compete.
It has an Intel Atom N450 (1.66GHz) processor that is fine for basic computing like word processing or surfing the internet. Windows XP Home should run smoothly, but the operating system is nearly if not actually obsolete. Windows 7 Starter is easier to use, has greater connectivity, and more media features. There’s no longer a reason to go for Windows XP unless it’s in a netbook below $300. Onboard graphics along with 1GB of RAM is neither here nor there, as it is standard for all netbooks.
The 160GB hard drive is also disappointing, as alternatives exist at the same price but with 250GB hard drives. It’s over 50% more storage that you’re missing out on. Another expected feature is the 10.1in (1,024x600 resolution) screen, which is large enough to be clear visually while being small enough to ensure portability. This netbook weighs 1.22kg, and measures 28.3mm thick, 178mm deep, and 268mm wide.
This is an average, notebook, with not a great deal to recommend it but on show-stopper downsides either.
